Abstract

The physical security system in the Workplace currently relies on conventional lock mechanisms. This approach has several fundamental weaknesses, such as a high risk of loss or unauthorized duplication of physical keys, the absence of real-time access monitoring, and the lack of accurate entry and exit access logs. This complicates the audit and tracking processes in the event of theft or security incidents. This study aims to design, build, and implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based Smart Door Lock system using the ESP32 microcontroller as the main processing unit. The system is integrated with MFRC522 Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for local authentication, a Solenoid Door Lock as the locking actuator, and the Telegram Bot API as an interface for remote monitoring and control. This research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method, which includes needs analysis, hardware and software design, implementation, and functionality testing using Black Box Testing. The test results show that the RFID reading accuracy reaches 100% at an optimal distance of 1 to 3 cm. The system has also proven capable of controlling the lock actuator with an average response time of 1.1 seconds after a card is scanned. Furthermore, integration with the Telegram Bot allows for instant notifications and remote door unlocking capabilities with an average latency of 1.4 seconds on a stable internet connection. In conclusion, this prototype provides an efficient, secure, and auditable solution to replace conventional key systems, thereby elevating security standards at the Workplace.
